Accessible toilets and Master Locksmith (MLAK) Keys

Please refer to The National Public Toilet Map for a list of public amenities within the Byron Shire area. This site provides information on the location, opening hours and availability of wheelchair access for more than 14,000 public and private amenities across Australia.

Council has a commitment to improving the accessibility of its public facilities, and there are several wheelchair accessible public amenities in the Byron Shire fitted with a Master Locksmith Access Key (MLAK).

What is the Master Locksmith Access Key?

The Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK) is the standard key system in use for accessible toilets throughout Australia.  The Master key fits into specially designed locks allowing 24 hour a day access to public toilets.

The MLAK is designed to increase access to facilities that would under normal circumstances be locked after hours.  The MLAK reduces the level of vandalism and keeps facilities clean.

The MLAK key opens all accessible toilets displaying the MLAK symbol and will allow access to over 350 facilities throughout NSW. An MLAK sign is attached to those facilities fitted with MLAK.
