Byron Shire Council supports ethical and sustainable agriculture and food production.
In June 2010, Byron Shire Council resolved to adopt an Ethical Catering Policy , which applies to all food procurement and corporate catering arrangements undertaken by Council. This Policy recognises the importance of ethically and sustainably produced foods, for the nutritional health and general wellbeing of our community, the local economy and the environment.
To implement the Policy, Council developed an Ethical Catering Register which gives preference to local, seasonally-available, certified organic, cruelty-free and fair trade produce and also aims to promote sustainable agriculture by supporting local farmers across Byron Shire.
Local businesses listed on Council’s Ethical Catering Register supply and deliver food and beverages for Council meetings and/or functions, as and when required. This involves the preparation and delivery of produce to Council Chambers, or any of its depots or any other venues as directed, located within the Byron Shire.
Applications to be included on the Ethical Catering Register
Council invites suitably qualified individuals/organisations to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for Ethical Catering at any time.
