Byron Shire Early Intervention Service provides physical therapy and specialist teaching services to children from birth to school entry age that have a significant delay or disability in areas of development.

The service aims to assist each child through movement, language, learning and play in order to develop their skills and reach their full potential, and to support families to achieve their desired goals.

It also encourages the community to value the inclusion of children with additional needs and their families, therefore supporting each child to be included with peers in local community activities.

SIDS and Kids

SIDS and Kids is dedicated to saving the lives of babies and children during pregnancy, birth, infancy and childhood, and to supporting bereaved families. Their vision is delivered through world class research, evidence based education and bereavement support; and advocacy.


Playgroups are informal sessions where parents, carers, babies and children aged birth to school age meet up in a relaxed and friendly environment. They are not-for-profit and run by parents for the parents who attend, and are usually held once a week for a two hour session.

Playgroups give children an opportunity to have fun, make new friends and develop new skills through informal play, while providing parents and carers with an opportunity to meet, make friends and share ideas and experiences.

Children's early learning influences their entire life. Preschools provide opportunities for children to learn as they discover, create, improvise and imagine. NSW preschools generally provide early education and care for children aged between three and six years. They are almost always community based, managed and owned, which means any profits are re-invested in the service. Most services operate from 9am - 3pm Monday to Friday and close during school holidays.
