On line Payments
Pay your Rates Online through Council’s eServices using MasterCard or Visa. A Credit Card surcharge fee of 0.42% applies and will be added to your rates payment. You will need to enter the reference number (assessment number) printed on your Rates and Charges notice.
Payment by Direct Debit
This is a cost free, stress-free method of payment which allows Council to debit your bank/credit union/building society account. Payments of your rates or water accounts via Direct Debit can be quarterly, payment in full, or by an agreed arrangement with Council of weekly, fortnightly, monthly. The amount payable will be automatically deducted from your nominated account on the due payment date.
Simply request an application form by downloading the Direct Debit Request form . Complete and return the form to Council or alternatively contact Council’s Rating Team on 02 6626 7007, and a form will be forwarded to you.
BPAY allows you the opportunity to pay over the phone, or through the Internet, from your cheque or savings account (credit card payments are not available via this facility). Please quote Biller Code 747105 and the seven (7) digit Reference Number (preceding zeros needed if assessment number is less than seven (7) digits).To make use of this option, you must initially contact your financial institution to ensure the BPAY facility is available at that institution.
Provided you have sufficient available credit or balance, the payment will be processed and you will be issued a receipt number from your banking institution for the bill payment.
Payment at Australia Post
Present your account at any Australia Post outlet to pay by cash, cheque or debit card. (Credit card can not be used for payment at this facility.)
Payment by mail
Simply mail your cheque or money order payable to Byron Shire Council, together with the reference number on the Rates Notice, to: Byron Shire Council, PO Box 219, Mullumbimby NSW 2482.
Payment in person
You can pay in person at Council’s customer service centre at Station Street, Mullumbimby. Please present your Rates Notice when making payment. You can pay by cash or cheque, or use your debit or credit card (surcharge fees of 0.42% will apply to credit card payments). Office hours are Monday to Friday 9.00am to 4:00pm.
Payment over the phone
Pay 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, by calling 1300 789 116 for the cost of a local call (with the exception of mobile phones which will be charged at mobile phone rates). MasterCard or Visa cards are accepted. A Credit Card Surcharge Fee of 0.42% applies.
Payment in full
If you are making a single payment for the full year’s rates and charges, your payment is due on or before 31 August each year.
Payment in quarterly instalments
If you are paying by quarterly instalments the due date and the amount payable for each instalment, are shown on your Rates Notice. We will send you an instalment notice for the second, third and fourth instalments, one month before the payment is due. The due dates for each instalment are 31 August, 30 November, 28 February and 31 May each year.
What happens if my payment is late?
If your quarterly payment is not paid in full by the due date, you will pay interest on the amount outstanding. The interest charge is simple interest calculated daily, at the rate of 7.5% per annum. Please ensure your payment reaches Council by the due date shown on your notice. If you are paying by mail, you should make allowances for postage time.
I’m having difficulty making my payment!
Council recognises that at times some people may have difficulties paying their rates and is sympathetic towards ratepayers who have genuine difficulties in meeting their payment deadlines. Should you be in such a position please visit Council in person or contact Council’s Debt Management Officer on 02 6626 7007 in order to discuss your situation and to make a special repayment arrangement.
Ratepayers having difficulty in paying quarterly instalment amounts are encouraged to pay their rates by weekly, fortnightly or monthly contributions as a way of budgeting.
Periodical payments can be arranged through Council via a direct debit authority ( Rates Direct Debit form ). Similar arrangements can be made by using BPay. For more information please call Council's Rates Team on (02) 6626 7007.
